Rick Ross to Collaborate with Blaqbonez on African-Themed Album
American rapper Rick Ross, known for his interest in Nigerian and African music, is working on an African-themed album. During a recent Instagram Live session with Nigerian rapper Blaqbonez, Ross shared that his favorite song from Blaqbonez is the hit single “Bling,” featuring Amaarae and BNXN. Blaqbonez explained that “Bling” was inspired by his disappointment at losing the Best Musician award to Kenyan artist Kaligraph Jones at the Soundcity MVP Awards.
Recently, Ross teased a new song that includes a snippet of Blaqbonez’s verse, hinting at a collaboration. This collaboration was confirmed during their Instagram Live session, with Ross continuing to develop his album featuring artists from across Africa. Earlier this year, Ross mentioned Nigerian artists Portable and Odumodublvck as potential collaborators and later discussed Afrobeats with Odumodublvck in another Instagram Live session.
Ross’ African-themed album is expected to feature a range of artists, including Nigerian Grammy-nominated star Ayra Starr, Ghanaian dancehall artist Stonebwoy, and Tanzanian superstar Diamond Platnumz. This project marks a return to Ross’ previous collaboration with Nigerian duo P-Square on the remix of their hit “Beautiful Oyinye” in 2011.
