Rio Ferdinand Says Manchester United Should Not Have Sold Lukaku

Manchester United icon Rio Ferdinand has pointed to Romelu Lukaku as another player the club let go too soon. He said the Red Devils didn’t take full advantage of Lukaku’s strengths while he was at Old Trafford.

United signed the Belgian striker from Everton in 2017 for £75 million. He hit the ground running with 27 goals in his first season, but his second year didn’t quite match the same energy. Lukaku was then sold to Inter Milan, where he rediscovered his form.

After a successful spell in Italy, Chelsea brought him back to the Premier League. However, his time at Stamford Bridge didn’t go as planned. He returned to Italy on two loan stints before finally making a permanent move to Napoli last year. Just last Friday, Lukaku played a key role in Napoli’s Serie A title win, scoring in their 2-0 victory over Cagliari.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Ferdinand praised the 32-year-old forward, saying, “Lukaku deserves credit. He’s another name on the list of players who left United and went on to shine elsewhere. He’s just won the league again and scored in the title-winning game.”

Ferdinand also criticized how Lukaku was judged in England. “People focus too much on what he isn’t good at,” he said. “Because he’s big and fast, there’s this expectation for him to play a certain way. But his real strength is running into space and taking defenders on.”

He added, “United didn’t build around his style, and we probably gave up on him too soon.” This comes shortly after Ferdinand listed four other players United may have been wrong to let go in recent years.

Victor Boniface has opened up about how a big-money move from Bayer Leverkusen to Al Nassr fell apart at the very last minute. The Nigerian striker had everything in place, he had agreed personal terms with the Saudi club, passed his medical, and was looking forward to playing alongside Cristiano Ronaldo.

The deal, which would have earned him around €45 million over three years, seemed all but done. But despite Bayer Leverkusen and Al Nassr reaching an agreement, the Saudi club made a sudden switch in plans and chose to sign Aston Villa’s Jhon Duran instead.

Speaking on The Culture League podcast, Boniface shared just how close he came to leaving, “I was ready. Bags packed. I live in Cologne, and we had already driven to Frankfurt,” he said.

He admitted the money involved was massive and revealed he had already given away many of his designer clothes and shoes to friends back home. “The flight was ready. I was in my hotel room praying for it to happen… but it just didn’t go through in the end.”

Alvaro Morata is now on his way to Como, with his move finally set in motion after Galatasaray reached a full agreement to sign Victor Osimhen from Napoli. Morata’s transfer had been stalled for several weeks due to Galatasaray’s long negotiations over Osimhen’s deal. But things moved quickly over the weekend as the Turkish side finalized the key details to bring in the Nigerian forward on a permanent basis.

Fabrizio Romano shared an update confirming that Morata will join Como once the Osimhen paperwork is fully completed. He noted that Morata has been waiting patiently for about a month for this switch to happen. Como and Morata had already settled personal terms, so the only thing left was Galatasaray’s clearance. With that now out of the way, the Spanish striker is set to make his return to Italy’s Serie A.
