Rivers United Extend Unbeaten Run With 2-0 Win

Rivers United extended their unbeaten run to seven matches with a 2-0 victory over Shooting Stars in Port Harcourt on Thursday.
After a goalless first half, Aniekeme Okon broke the deadlock in the 51st minute, and Ndifreke Effiong added a second 14 minutes before full-time. With this win, Finidi George’s side climbed to the top of the table. Meanwhile, Remo Stars dropped to second place after a 3-1 loss to Plateau United at the New Jos Stadium. Ebuka Anthony netted twice, and Abubakar Adamu scored for Plateau United, while Remo Stars’ consolation goal came from substitute Jabar Malik.

Victor Osimhen has described the Super Eagles’ remaining 2026 World Cup qualifiers as battles they must win at all costs.
The Super Eagles boosted their chances of qualifying with a 2-0 win over Rwanda in Kigali on Friday, securing their first victory in the series. The win pushed the three-time African champions to fourth place in Group C with six points from five matches.
Eric Chelle’s team will face Zimbabwe next at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo on Tuesday, aiming to keep the momentum going.
“We’re ready. The remaining matches are wars, and we must give everything to win them,” Osimhen said.

Ronaldo Says Winning for Portugal Matters More Than Scoring Goals

Cristiano Ronaldo has vowed to defend Portugal’s badge for the rest of his life. Speaking at a press conference before Portugal’s Nations League quarter-final second leg against Denmark on Sunday, Ronaldo made it clear that winning matters more to him than personal glory.
Portugal lost the first leg 1-0 at Parken on Thursday, but Ronaldo stressed that his focus is on helping the team succeed, no matter who scores.
“It’s not about me scoring. I just want Portugal to win. If we win and I don’t even play, I’ll take that,” Ronaldo said, as quoted by Fabrizio Romano.
“My focus has always been on defending my country’s badge until I die. I’d be happy if we win tomorrow and someone else gets the goal.” Ronaldo has scored a record-breaking 135 goals for Portugal since his debut in 2003.
