Russian-American Ballerina Sentenced to 12 Years for Donating to Ukraine Charity

Ksenia Karelina, a ballerina with dual Russian and US citizenship, has been sentenced to 12 years in a Russian prison for treason.

Karelina, who was visiting family in Russia, was arrested in February 2024 after authorities discovered she donated £39 to Razom, a charity aiding Ukraine.

Despite the charity denying any military support, Russian investigators claimed the funds were used for anti-Russian activities.

Karelina pleaded guilty under duress and plans to appeal the verdict. She is expected to be sent to a “general regime colony.”
