Sancho Blocks Manchester United Swap Deal to Sign Emi Martinez
Manchester United’s hopes of landing Argentina goalkeeper Emi Martinez on deadline day collapsed after Jason Sancho blocked a proposed swap deal.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano revealed that United and Aston Villa discussed a straight exchange, with both players valued at around £25 million. However, Sancho’s insistence on leaving Old Trafford only on loan, rather than a permanent move, brought negotiations to a halt.
The winger, who is not in manager Ruben Amorim’s plans, had spent last season on loan at Chelsea and was keen on staying in west London permanently. But the Blues couldn’t reach an agreement and instead paid a £5 million penalty to send him back to United.
Sancho later explored options in Serie A before Aston Villa made a late attempt to bring him in on loan, but the deal fell through, shutting the door on United’s ambitious move for Martinez.
