School Collapse in Jos: 22 Dead, 132 Injured

On Friday morning, Saints Academy in Jos, Plateau State, collapsed, resulting in 22 deaths and 132 injuries during third-term exams.

Hon Musa Ashom, State Commissioner for Information, confirmed the figures. The government enacted Executive Order 003, urging facilities with structural concerns to close immediately. The Jos Metropolitan Development Board will inspect buildings to prevent future incidents.

By 6:00 pm, 154 people had been rescued. Hospitals are treating the injured, and emergency response teams are active.

Governor Barrister Mutfwang emphasized adherence to safety standards and promised a thorough investigation. The government expressed condolences and committed to providing care for the injured.

The Gombe State Government has shown support for Borno State following severe flooding. Gombe’s Governor Muhammadu Yahaya, currently abroad, sent a delegation led by Deputy Governor Manassah Jatau with a N100 million donation for flood relief.

The delegation visited Maiduguri, offering condolences and support at the Government House and Shehu of Borno’s palace. Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum thanked Gombe for the aid, promising to use it effectively. The delegation also toured the flood-affected areas and prayed for the victims.
