Senate Launches Investigation into FCT Demolitions and Julius Berger Highway Project
The Senate has initiated an investigation into recent demolitions in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) following a motion by Senator Ireti Kingibe.
The motion raised concerns over illegal demolitions that have left many residents homeless. The Senate has summoned FCT Minister Nyesom Wike to explain the actions and ordered a halt to further demolitions pending the investigation.
Additionally, the Senate is probing Julius Berger Nigeria PLC for refusing to provide details on the Odukpani-Itu Highway project, which connects Cross River and Akwa Ibom states. Despite receiving over N18 billion in public funds, the company failed to honor Senate invitations.
The Senate has condemned Julius Berger’s actions as contempt of the National Assembly and issued a warrant to compel the company’s Managing Director to appear at an investigative hearing.
