On July 3, the Senate addressed the issue of substandard Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) and Automotive Gas Oil (AGO) entering the Nigerian market.

Senator Asuquo Ekpeyong highlighted a report indicating that 660 kilotons of substandard diesel were exported to Nigeria.

Despite revised import standards by the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), enforcement has lagged. The Senate formed an ad-hoc committee to investigate, emphasizing legal consequences for those involved.

Senate President Godswill Akpabio supported a review of the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA). The committee will report back in three weeks.
