Senior Advocate of Nigeria Seeks to Withdraw from Representing Former Governor Yahaya Bello
Adeola Adedipe, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), applied to the Federal High Court in Abuja on Thursday, June 27, to withdraw his representation for former Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello.
ABello faces 19 charges, including money laundering and misappropriation of N80.2 billion in public funds.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) requested the court to sanction Bello’s lawyers for failing to ensure his presence in court, as previously promised.
EFCC’s lead counsel, Kemi Pinhero, SAN, argued that the lawyers should be docked and disciplined for breaching professional conduct rules.
Adedipe, SAN, refuted these claims, stating he was not Bello’s lead counsel and had not made any undertaking to secure Bello’s presence.
He accused the EFCC of disrespecting the court by not executing the arrest warrant for Bello and revealed that his team was unaware of Bello’s whereabouts.
Given the circumstances, Adedipe moved to withdraw from the case under section 349(8) of the ACJA, 2015.
However, the EFCC opposed this, labeling it an afterthought and urging the court to reject the withdrawal request. The court, presided by Justice Emeka Nwite, has yet to rule on the matter.

Analyst Says Tinubu Not Responsible for Recent U.S.-Linked Airstrike Claims
Nigerian news analyst, Mahmud Jega, has shared his opinion on the recent airstrike carried out by the United States in Nigeria, stating that Nigerians should not blame President Bola Tinubu for the incident.
Jega made this statement during a recent interview, where he said he does not believe many people will hold the Tinubu administration responsible, as Donald Trump had issued threats against Nigeria long before Tinubu’s administration.
“No, I don’t think many people will blame the Tinubu administration for what is happening now because President Donald Trump, when he first made the threats, it was clearly not in coordination with the Tinubu administration or the government of Nigeria,” Jega said.
