South African Woman Gets Life Sentence for Plotting Husband’s Murder
A 44-year-old South African woman, Faith Nongcebo Ntombela, has been sentenced to life imprisonment for orchestrating the murder of her husband, Captain Zwelakhe Ntombela.
The Durban High Court delivered the verdict on Friday, November 29, 2024. Captain Ntombela, a Durban Metro Police officer, was fatally shot on May 3, 2023, outside his home in Umlazi.
Investigations by the Hawks revealed that Faith had stolen her husband’s service and private firearms prior to the incident.
Hawks KZN spokesperson, Lieutenant Colonel Simphiwe Mhlongo, disclosed that the investigation led to the arrest of 28-year-old Mzo Ntombela in July 2023.
His arrest helped uncover the involvement of Faith, along with her accomplices, primary school principal Sithembiso Khumalo and Khulani Cele, who assisted in hiring a hitman.
Mzo pleaded guilty and received a 20-year sentence for murder. On Friday, Faith was sentenced to life imprisonment for murder, along with additional concurrent sentences for firearm theft and obstructing justice. Cele and Khumalo’s trial is set to continue in April 2025.
KwaZulu-Natal Hawks Provincial Head, Major General Lesetja Senona, commended the court’s decision, emphasizing the importance of justice in cases of organized crime.

Analyst Says Tinubu Not Responsible for Recent U.S.-Linked Airstrike Claims
Nigerian news analyst, Mahmud Jega, has shared his opinion on the recent airstrike carried out by the United States in Nigeria, stating that Nigerians should not blame President Bola Tinubu for the incident.
Jega made this statement during a recent interview, where he said he does not believe many people will hold the Tinubu administration responsible, as Donald Trump had issued threats against Nigeria long before Tinubu’s administration.
“No, I don’t think many people will blame the Tinubu administration for what is happening now because President Donald Trump, when he first made the threats, it was clearly not in coordination with the Tinubu administration or the government of Nigeria,” Jega said.
