In a recent friendly match held at the La Quinta Football Centre in Malaga, Nigeria’s Super Falcons faced off against Canada, ultimately succumbing to a narrow 1-0 loss.

The Olympic champions from Canada asserted their dominance early, securing the decisive goal in the 18th minute of play.

Despite several opportunities to equalize, the Super Falcons were thwarted by their own shortcomings in front of goal.

Jennifer Echegini, newly signed by Paris Saint-Germain, came agonizingly close to leveling the score, striking the woodwork just seven minutes before the final whistle.

This defeat marks the Super Falcons’ first setback of the year 2024, prompting coach Randy Waldrum’s team to refocus their efforts on their upcoming challenge against Brazil in the 2024 Olympics.

Scheduled as a Group C encounter, this pivotal fixture is set to take place at the Stade Bordeaux next Thursday, where Nigeria will aim to bounce back and assert their prowess on the international stage.

Nigerians React with Anger as Students Brutally Fail WAEC 2025

WAEC is currently facing intense backlash after releasing the results of the 2025 May/June West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE). The results have caused conversations, with students, parents, teachers, and education experts expressing concern over the poor performance.

Only 38% of candidates passed with five credits, including English Language and Mathematics, subjects necessary for gaining admission into higher institutions. This marks a steep drop from the 72.12% success rate recorded in 2024, making it one of the lowest performances in recent years.

On X, education advocate Dr. Richard Ayo-Dairo (@RArakunrin) suggested the midnight timing of the English exam may have contributed to the poor performance. “No one is talking about the WAEC 2025 Midnight English Language examination, which clearly played a role in the mass failure,” he wrote. “Someone needs to be held accountable. This is about the future of our children.”

Another user, Femi Organ (@FemiOrgan), blamed an issue. “How many students today can even speak proper English, let alone write it? And those who speak well can’t explain or use it meaningfully. Shortcuts and slang have taken over,” he said. “WAEC is just the mirror. The real problem is around us.”

Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has travelled to the United States to attend the white wedding of his nephew and famous Nigerian singer, Davido. Davido had earlier revealed that he and his wife, Chioma Avril Rowland, would be having their white wedding in Miami, Florida, this August. He made the announcement during a recent appearance on The Breakfast Club, which aired on April 8, 2025.

The governor’s spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, confirmed the trip in a statement, responding to speculations about Adeleke’s sudden absence raised by the opposition APC. Rasheed explained that Governor Adeleke left the country a few days ago using the family’s private jet to be present at the wedding of his nephew, whom he described as a global music star.

He also extended an invitation to members of the opposition to join the celebration, either in person or virtually. He noted that since assuming office in November 2022, Governor Adeleke has not taken an official vacation and decided to keep this trip short to stay committed to his duties. According to him, the governor remains in touch with his deputy, Prince Kola Adewusi, who is overseeing state matters during his absence.

Nicole Westmoreland, part of the legal team defending music mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs, has confirmed that efforts are underway to secure a presidential pardon from Donald Trump ahead of Diddy’s upcoming sentencing. Diddy is scheduled to be sentenced on October 3, following his recent conviction in New York on two counts of transporting individuals for prostitution, charges that could land him up to 20 years in prison.

In an interview with CNN, Westmoreland revealed that conversations about a possible pardon have already taken place. “We’ve reached out and had discussions regarding a pardon,” she said. However, the chances appear slim. While Trump has acknowledged having a friendly relationship with Diddy, he made it clear in a recent Newsmax interview that their connection doesn’t guarantee leniency.

Asked directly if he would pardon the rapper, Trump replied, “I would say so, yeah,” suggesting he’s unlikely to intervene. Diddy’s legal team continues to explore all options as his sentencing date approaches.
