“There’s not a single world in Afrobeats where Tems is greater than Tiwa Savage“
While Tems is undeniably a rising star, breaking boundaries with her soulful sound and international collaborations, comparing her to Tiwa Savage feels premature. Tiwa Savage, often regarded as the “Queen of Afrobeats,” has a decade-long legacy of redefining the genre, pioneering hits like “All Over” and “Eminado.” Her global influence, stage presence, and consistent chart-toppers have solidified her status as one of the greatest. Tems, with her unique voice and fresh sound, is still carving her space in the industry. While Tems’ journey is impressive and commendable, there’s a clear distinction between the two. Tiwa Savage’s catalog, influence, and pioneering role in Afrobeats are unmatched for now. In essence, both artists shine in their lanes, but to claim Tems has surpassed Tiwa is a stretch—at least, not yet.

Davido Reveals Why His Billionaire Dad Bought Him Out of His First Music Deal
Davido, the renowned Afrobeats artist, recently opened up about why his billionaire father, Chief Adedeji Adeleke, intervened in his first professional recording contract.
In a candid revelation, the ‘Omo Baba Olowo’ hitmaker shared that he had signed a deal with Black Diamond Promotions in 2011.
However, his father, recognizing the potential in his son’s music, decided to buy him out of the contract after Davido played him a snippet of the iconic ‘Dami Duro’ video.
Chief Adeleke’s decision was driven by a desire for his son to have complete control over his music, especially when it came to owning the masters.
This story surfaced when Davido’s former label boss, Tosin Ashafa, took to X (formerly Twitter) to reminisce about how he gave Davido his first official music deal and the reaction of Davido’s father.
Ashafa tweeted, “I signed @davido to his first official contract under Black Diamond Promotions with Cecil Hammond/another silent partner. We also brought in @GodwinTom to manage him.
Dr. Adeleke saw David’s commitment to his music and reached out to us, buying us out of the deal.”
Davido replied to Ashafa’s tweet, saying, “So much respect to you guys for allowing me to walk! Just know you were part of something that turned out to be phenomenal!”
