“Tinubu May Not Contest in 2027” – APC Chieftain Says

A top APC chieftain in Rivers State and close associate of former governor Rotimi Amaechi, Chief Eze Chukwuemeka Eze, has claimed that President Bola Tinubu may not even be in the race for the 2027 presidential election. Eze hinted that major twists could shake up the 2027 polls, especially if the United States decides to release a reported file on the President. He also believes that Amaechi is the best man to challenge Tinubu should the President choose to run.

According to Eze, many Nigerians are already reaching out to him regularly, eager to know Amaechi’s political plans and if he will throw his hat into the ring for 2027. In his words, the questions keep coming: “Is Amaechi running?”, “Does he have interest?”, “What is his direction for 2027?”

Eze, who once served as National Publicity Secretary of the now-defunct nPDP, said these concerns reflect growing dissatisfaction with the current government, which he accuses of focusing more on clinging to power than fixing the country’s deep-rooted problems.

“A government that is obsessed with staying in power despite widespread hunger, economic hardship, insecurity, and daily killings has clearly lost touch with the people,” he said. “That’s not leadership.

That’s not democracy.”

He said it’s no surprise that Nigerians are looking toward Amaechi, whom he described as a symbol of hope and competence. “Amaechi has the experience, the courage, and the track record,” Eze stated. “If anyone can help steer Nigeria out of this mess, it’s him. He’s always ready to put the country first.”

Additionally, Eze noted that 2027 might take everyone by surprise, and Tinubu may not even make it to the ballot if the alleged U.S. file sees the light of day. “With the way things are going, the failures of this administration alone should be enough to make any talk of re-election a non-starter,” he concluded.

Atiku says 2027 Election Will Show if Nigerians Approve Tinubu’s Leadership

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has said the 2027 elections will be a clear judgment on President Bola Tinubu’s time in office, calling it a referendum on his leadership. Atiku’s media adviser, Paul Ibe, made this known on Monday while reacting to claims from the ruling APC, which accused Atiku of trying to rebuild the opposition for selfish reasons and to access public funds.

Ibe dismissed the accusations, saying Atiku’s mission is rooted in the hopes of everyday Nigerians who want a better future. “These people clearly weren’t ready to govern. All they do is play politics,” Ibe said. “They’ve worked hard, not to move Nigeria forward, but to stall any real progress. Their actions go against everything democracy stands for.”

He also criticized the Tinubu administration’s performance, pointing to a major road project where only 30 kilometres have been completed out of a planned 700 in two years. “They threw a party to celebrate just 4% of the project. Can you imagine? The money wasted on that celebration could’ve done more for the road itself,” he said.

Ibe went on to highlight the worsening conditions in Nigeria, noting the country now ranks as the poverty capital of the world and leads Africa in child malnutrition. He defended Atiku’s record, saying the former VP’s work is inspired by the people, not personal ambition.

“Atiku built his name and businesses long before 1999. He has created jobs, invested his own money in his political journey, and never relied on state funds,” he added. He urged the APC to focus on fixing the country rather than constantly watching Atiku, adding that in 2027, it will be Tinubu against the rest of the nation.

Senator Abba Moro, representing Benue South and serving as the Senate Minority Leader, has voiced strong support for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as it works to rebuild and prepare for the 2027 general elections. Speaking at the party’s 99th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting on Tuesday, May 27, 2027, in Abuja, Moro said PDP lawmakers in the National Assembly fully back the efforts of the party’s leadership, including the National Working Committee, Board of Trustees, governors, and other key figures.

“We believe in the plans being rolled out by our leaders. These activities will lead us to a successful national convention,” he said. Moro was optimistic about the future of the party, urging members and supporters to stay hopeful. “There’s no better time to remind Nigerians that the PDP is coming back,” he said with confidence.

While acknowledging that the party has lost some members recently, he described those defections as only short-term challenges, insisting that the PDP still holds the strongest nationwide presence. He reminded the gathering of how the party started with just 16 individuals determined to shape Nigeria’s democratic future, and encouraged everyone to remain united and focused. “Nigeria needs an alternative,” Moro said. “And that alternative is the PDP.”

PDP Says Nigeria’s Economy Is Getting Worse Under President Tinubu

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has raised serious concerns about the worsening insecurity and declining economy under President Bola Tinubu’s administration. This was a key point during the PDP’s 99th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting held on Tuesday in Abuja. The party also said it would carefully consider the South-East caucus’s resolutions at a special meeting scheduled for June 30, 2025. The NEC meeting, which faced several delays before finally taking place, focused on urgent issues affecting the country and the party.

In a statement read by Acting National Chairman Iliya Damagum, the PDP criticized the current government for what it called growing insecurity, economic struggles, and widespread corruption. The statement described the Tinubu-led administration as exploitative and out of touch with the people’s needs. It condemned inconsistent policies, corruption, budget misuse, and the loss of investor confidence, which have led to a decline in Nigeria’s infrastructure.

The PDP also accused the government of trying to weaken opposition parties by intimidating politicians and undermining democratic institutions. Despite these challenges, the party reaffirmed its commitment to democracy, the rule of law, and the people’s right to freely participate in a multi-party political system. The PDP made it clear that it will continue to stand against any moves to limit Nigeria’s democracy or create a one-party system.
