Activist lawyer Deji Adeyanju has expressed his disappointment with President Bola Tinubu’s decision not to release Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

Adeyanju criticized Tinubu for continuing the approach of former President Muhammadu Buhari, stating that it was a missed opportunity to make a positive change.

In a post on X, Adeyanju wrote, “Tinubu should have released Nnamdi Kanu a long time ago.”

He further emphasized the difference between criticism and leadership, arguing that it is easier to criticize than to govern effectively.

He pointed out that many critics often fail as leaders, citing examples from both around the world and within Africa.

The Lagos State Special Offences Court has rejected an application filed by Godwin Emefiele, the former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, challenging the court’s authority to handle the fraud charges brought against him.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is accusing Emefiele and his co-defendant, Henry Omoile, of misappropriating $4.5 billion and N2.8 billion.

In his ruling, Justice Rahman Oshodi confirmed the court’s jurisdiction to proceed with the case.

However, he dismissed four out of the 26 charges due to a lack of jurisdiction.

Addressing the territorial jurisdiction issue raised in some counts, the judge stated, “The objection to the court’s territorial jurisdiction over counts eight to 26 is dismissed.
