Tyla Wins Best New Artist and International Act at 2024 BET Awards
At the 2024 BET Awards on June 30, South African singer Tyla emerged as a standout artist, winning both the Best New Artist and Best International Act awards. Tyla first gained recognition with her single “Water,” which became a global sensation and sparked a popular dance trend on TikTok.
Early on Monday morning, July 1, Tyla was awarded the Best New Artist award, beating out other contenders like Ayra Starr, 41, 4Batz, Bossman Dlow, Fridayy, October London, and Sexyy Red. She also won the Best International Act award, surpassing artists such as Asake, Ayra Starr, and Aya Nakamura (France).
In her acceptance speech, Tyla expressed her gratitude, saying, “This is such a gift to be here. I want to dedicate this one to Africa. I want to dedicate this to all the African superstars before me that didn’t get these opportunities that I’m getting. This is just amazing. Africa to the world, guys.”
