UNICEF has provided one million doses of cholera vaccines to the Borno State government to help protect residents from the disease. Prof. Baba Mallam, the state’s Commissioner for Health and Human Services, revealed this during the handover of 669,569 vaccine doses in Maiduguri.

Speaking through Fati Ali, Director of Disease Control and Immunisation at the Borno State Primary Healthcare Development Board, Mallam highlighted the timeliness of the initiative, especially after recent floods increased the risk of waterborne diseases.

He acknowledged UNICEF’s full support and urged residents to visit nearby healthcare facilities for vaccination. UNICEF’s Maiduguri Field Office Chief, Dr. Gerida Birukila, also encouraged the public to take the oral vaccine, assuring them it is safe and effective, particularly for those in crowded areas and children.
