Venezuelan President Moves Christmas Celebrations to October Amid Economic Struggles
In a surprising announcement, Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro has shifted the nation’s Christmas celebrations to October, defying global norms of December festivities.
In a live TV address, Maduro stated, “It is September and it already smells like Christmas,” declaring October 1st as the new start for the holiday season.
This decision has met with skepticism and frustration from Venezuelans, who face severe economic difficulties.
Ernesto Ruiz, a Caracas resident, criticized the move, saying, “Christmas should be a time of joy and family reunions, but with our current crisis, an early celebration seems unrealistic.”
Similarly, Inés Quevedo, a mother of two, expressed concerns over basic needs, highlighting the stagnant minimum wage of 130 bolivars per month and the insufficient food bonus.
Many are questioning how they will manage the financial burden of an early Christmas amid ongoing hardship.
