Wizkid Mourns Mother’s Death in New Song and Upcoming Album
Nigerian Grammy-winning artist Ayodeji Balogun, popularly known as Wizkid, continues to grieve the passing of his mother, Mrs. Jane Morayo Balogun. This profound sense of loss is evident in his recent collaboration with Asake on the track “MMS.”
In his verse on the song, Wizkid expresses his deep sorrow and the impact his mother’s death has had on him. He reflects on how losing his mother has changed him and led him to rediscover his purpose in life. The lyrics convey his emotional journey:
“You can’t escape who you are
What will be, is already destined…
Why did Mama leave me? It’s been a while
I lost myself but found my purpose
Every day, I know I’m blessed…
Life has its trials; this is just how it is,” he sings.
Jane Morayo Balogun, Wizkid’s mother, passed away on August 18, 2023, in London. On what would have been her birthday, July 4, Wizkid reflected on his immense loss, stating that his life feels incomplete without her. He expressed that he misses her dearly and that his heart remains broken.
In her memory, Wizkid has announced a forthcoming album titled “Morayo,” named after his mother’s middle name, to honor her legacy and the profound influence she had on his life.
