The Yobe Police Command has arrested 18 individuals linked to the violent protests and vandalism that erupted on Thursday in Nguru, Potiskum, and Gashua. Police Spokesman DSP Dungus Abdulkarim reported that these suspects, who disguised their actions as peaceful protests, were involved in burning public buildings and looting food and empowerment equipment. The arrested individuals will face charges once the investigation concludes.

Commissioner of Police Garba Ahmed had previously warned against the destruction of government property. Abdulkarim emphasized that while peaceful assembly is a right, it must not infringe on others’ rights. The police are enforcing a dusk-to-dawn curfew to maintain order and are committed to combating any criminal activities. He urged local communities to assist the police in preventing further violence and maintaining law and order.

“No, I don’t think many people will blame the Tinubu administration for what is happening now because President Donald Trump, when he first made the threats, it was clearly not in coordination with the Tinubu administration or the government of Nigeria,” Jega said.
