Yobe State Police Nab Gang Leader: A Step Towards Safer Communities

The police in Yobe State have caught Haruna Mohammed, a well-known criminal boss who was causing fear in many places, including nearby states.

The police spokesperson, DSP Dungus Abdulkarim, shared this news on Monday, June 17, 2024. He said Haruna was taken for doing crimes like scaring people, working with others to do bad things, and demanding money by threatening them.

DSP Abdulkarim explained that Haruna would call people and scare them into giving him money or valuable things by threatening to hurt or kill them.

The Police Chief, CP Garba Ahmed, has promised that criminals will find no safe place in Yobe State. The police have made another big step in cleaning the state of bad guys with Haruna’s capture.

Haruna, 40 years old and living in Lantewa Village, was caught by the State Intelligence Department (SID). He’s known for his scary phone calls where he asks for money or things from people.

The police were already looking for Haruna because he was scaring people in towns, villages, and even other states.

One person from Siminti Village told the police that Haruna asked him for N3 million or he would kill him and his family.

On June 16, 2024, around 2:15 pm, SID detectives caught Haruna in Nangillam Village after a smart operation. He admitted to his crimes and named other criminals who are now being chased by the police.

The Police Chief warned that anyone thinking of committing crimes will be stopped. He asked everyone to tell the police if they see any crimes happening and asked for help to keep the state safe.

FG Extends NYSC Orientation Camp From 3 to 6 Weeks

The Federal Government has announced an extension of the NYSC programme. It can be noted that the NYSC camp orientation is usually for three weeks before the youths go out to gain experience, employment, and serve the country for one year.

However, the FG announced that the passing-out parade from camp will be cancelled, and corps members will now spend six weeks in camp instead of three weeks.

“The first two weeks speak to laying a foundation on civic responsibility. The next two weeks will look at career mapping, basic accounting literacy skills, business planning and access to finance. The final two weeks, we intend to have focused corps-stream-specific training aligned with the corps member’s designated stream based on his choice, academic background and skills profile.”

Federal Government Clarifies Position on Proposed Tax Recommendations

The federal government reacted to claims stating that the new tax rules will be imposed on telecommunications and petroleum products for Nigerians.

The FG released a statement to explain the process and stated that there is no intention to place taxes on telecom and petroleum products and services.

“Those recommendations do not amount to government policy and are not binding on Nigeria. Decisions on tax matters are taken through established constitutional and legislative processes and are guided by national priorities and prevailing economic realities.”
