Young Girl Loses Eye After Vape Explosion in Dublin

Published

on

A seven-year-old schoolgirl from Tallaght, Dublin, tragically lost her eye after a vape exploded near her face, covering her skin with battery acid.

Ruby Grainger had just purchased ice cream from a nearby van when the incident occurred. As she walked past a bonfire lit by local youths, a battery in the flames burst, sending shards into her face.

Her mother, Ciara, described the horrifying moment, saying, “All I heard was screaming. When she reached the house, I nearly collapsed.” Ruby was rushed to the Royal Victoria Eye and Ear Hospital, where doctors had to remove her eye during an emergency operation.

Medical professionals believe the severe damage was caused by battery acid from the vape. Ruby now faces life-altering challenges, including adjusting to her vision loss and learning to balance again.

A fundraiser has been launched to help cover the cost of a prosthetic eye, with hopes that she will be ready for surgery in six weeks.
