Nigerian actor Yul Edochie has faced significant backlash on social media after advising against protests over the nation’s economic hardships. On July 19, 2024, Edochie took to Instagram to urge Nigerians to exercise patience and continue voicing their concerns without resorting to protests.

“I acknowledge the hardships. Protest is not the answer,” he wrote. “People take advantage of protests to loot, destroy properties, and harm innocent Nigerians who are already suffering. In the end, the protest’s aim will be defeated. Remember what happened during End Sars.” Edochie emphasized the need for patience and continued dialogue, expressing confidence in President Tinubu’s efforts to address the issues.

“Let’s be patient. Let’s keep speaking out and doing all we can to help out. President Tinubu listens and he’s doing all he can to make things right. Fellow Nigerians, let’s be patient,” he urged. However, his advice was met with intense criticism and disapproval from his followers on Instagram. One follower responded angrily, questioning Edochie’s credibility and motives, accusing him of self-interest. Another sarcastically suggested he pursue a career in comedy.
