Yul Edochie Criticized for Advising Against Protests
Nigerian actor Yul Edochie has faced significant backlash on social media after advising against protests over the nation’s economic hardships. On July 19, 2024, Edochie took to Instagram to urge Nigerians to exercise patience and continue voicing their concerns without resorting to protests.
“I acknowledge the hardships. Protest is not the answer,” he wrote. “People take advantage of protests to loot, destroy properties, and harm innocent Nigerians who are already suffering. In the end, the protest’s aim will be defeated. Remember what happened during End Sars.” Edochie emphasized the need for patience and continued dialogue, expressing confidence in President Tinubu’s efforts to address the issues.
“Let’s be patient. Let’s keep speaking out and doing all we can to help out. President Tinubu listens and he’s doing all he can to make things right. Fellow Nigerians, let’s be patient,” he urged. However, his advice was met with intense criticism and disapproval from his followers on Instagram. One follower responded angrily, questioning Edochie’s credibility and motives, accusing him of self-interest. Another sarcastically suggested he pursue a career in comedy.

“What Would Make Me Want to Take Picture with Ayra Starr?” – Jaywon
Nigerian singer Jaywon reveals that he’s not on good terms with his colleague, Ayra Starr.
Their fallout started from a viral photo where Ayra Starr is seen subtly holding Jaywon’s hand as though to keep him from touching her waist.
This picture have become fuel for online trolls who began mocking Jaywon, sparking an issue he believes could have been handled better.
In a recent interview with News Central, Jaywon opened up about his disappointment with how Ayra Starr and her team responded, or rather, didn’t respond, to the situation.
According to him, he didn’t expect things to spiral like this, especially as his intentions were simply to show support for Ayra, who he admires for her contributions to Nigerian music.
“People don’t understand it. What would make me, Jaywon, want to take a picture with Ayra Starr?
She’s been making us proud as an artist, and I just wanted to celebrate her,” he explained.
He pointed out that he, too, gets supported by fans and peers, so extending that goodwill to a younger artist like Ayra seemed natural to him.
But after the photo went viral, he felt abandoned as the jokes and negative comments piled on.
Jaywon expressed frustration that neither Ayra Starr nor her management tried to step in and address the situation.
He felt they could have made a statement to clarify things or at least denounced the trolling, but instead, he noticed they kept promoting the image repeatedly, keeping it in the public eye.
“They knew how it was affecting me, yet they kept quiet.
All they did was promote the picture back to back.
Nobody is dumb,” he said, emphasizing that the silence felt intentional.
He shared that Ayra’s silence on the matter showed him how things operate behind the scenes.
He concluded, “They feel like if they speak up, they’ll stop the picture from trending.
And that’s fine; everybody has their time.”
