International rapper Nicki Minaj has praised Nigerian Afrobeat star Davido, calling him an extraordinary songwriter and melody maker.
She revealed this while discussing her recent collaboration with him on her latest track, If It’s Okay.
Nicki’s decision to feature Davido on the song stemmed from her desire to incorporate the unique Afrobeat rhythm into her music.
Responding to a fan’s inquiry on her X account, she expressed admiration for Davido’s artistry and work ethic.
She described their collaboration as a meeting of mutual respect, mentioning his ability to craft captivating melodies and powerful lyrics.
“That man is an incredible writer and melody maker,” Nicki wrote, explaining why she sought his input.
“It is always a pleasure working with him because we both respect each other’s craft.
I wanted his Afrobeat touch to elevate the tempo and bring out the vibrant feel of the genre. Naija to the world.”
