Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti has come out in full support of Kylian Mbappé after the French forward missed a penalty during the team’s 2-0 loss to Liverpool in the Champions League.
The match saw the 25-year-old striker have the opportunity to level the score at 1-1 after Alexis MacAllister had given Liverpool the lead, but his penalty attempt was saved by Liverpool’s goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher.
Mbappé’s miss was one of several key moments in the match, as Mohamed Salah also missed a penalty for Liverpool, firing his effort wide.
However, Liverpool quickly capitalized on their chances, with Cody Gakpo scoring a second goal from a corner to seal the victory for the Reds.
Despite the disappointing result, Ancelotti was quick to rally behind his star player, offering words of encouragement in the aftermath of the match.
“Mbappé has all of our support,” he said. “He is an extraordinary player, and we have no doubt that he will soon turn the situation around. We just need to be patient with him.”
