Nigerian singer Raoul John Njeng-Njeng, better known as Skales, has made a bold claim, stating that he played a key role in inspiring Burna Boy at a pivotal point in the Grammy-winning artist’s career.

In a recent interview with Naija FM in Lagos, Skales revealed that before the collaboration on the 2017 hit Temper Remix, Burna Boy had not yet experienced major success in the music scene.

According to Skales, it was their joint effort that helped elevate Burna Boy’s career to new heights.

“I inspired Burna Boy. He will agree with me,” Skales confidently said.

“At that time, Burna Boy had no major hit song, and it was after we worked together on Temper Remix that his career really began to take off.

I’m not trying to take credit for his success, but I believe I played a role in his journey.”

Despite claiming to have had an influence on Burna Boy’s early career, Skales also emphasized that the two musicians have always had a mutual admiration for each other.

He explained that collaboration in the music industry is not about one person helping the other, but about supporting each other’s growth and creativity.

“Collaboration is about promoting one another and lifting each other up,” he added.

“We admire each other’s work, and that’s why we decided to work together.”

Skales, known for his own hits like Mukulu, Shake Body, and Samba, has had a significant career in the Nigerian music industry.

Over the years, he has transitioned from being part of the group Jungle Music to becoming a solo artist with a dedicated fanbase.

Meanwhile, Burna Boy, born Damini Ebunoluwa Ogulu, has evolved into one of the most recognized and influential African artists worldwide, especially after his Grammy win for Twice As Tall.
