Edo Police Arrest Suspect in Kidnapping of Community Leader, Recover N7 Million Ransom
Edo State Police Command has scored a major win in the fight against crime by capturing a 27-year-old man, Ibrahim Yahaya Jolly, in connection with the kidnapping of Igbinosun Evans, the leader of the Ugbogui community in Ovia South-East Local Government Area.
SP Moses Joel Yamu, the command’s spokesperson, publicized the arrest during the presentation of five suspects involved in various criminal activities in the state.
According to Yamu, Jolly was nabbed after receiving a ransom of N7 million from the kidnapped victim’s family.
The suspect was apprehended by the Intelligence Rapid Response Squad (IRRS), a special unit dedicated to investigating high-profile crimes.
Jolly has confessed to his involvement in the kidnapping and is cooperating with the police, providing valuable information.
This cooperation is expected to lead to the arrest of other gang members and the recovery of any weapons used in the crime.
SP Yamu highlighted the commitment of the Edo State Police Command to combatting crime and ensuring peace in the state.
He thanked the residents for their continued support and urged them to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities.
Commissioner of Police, Nemi Iwo, reaffirmed the police’s dedication to creating a crime-free environment in Edo State.
He warned criminals to leave the state or face the consequences, emphasizing that there would be no place for them within the state’s borders.
The arrest of Jolly represents another step forward in the police’s ongoing efforts to rid Edo State of criminal elements, especially in areas affected by kidnapping and armed robbery.
The police continue to ramp up their operations, working closely with community leaders and residents to swiftly tackle such crimes.
The investigation into the kidnapping is ongoing, with more arrests expected shortly.
The police commissioner called on the public to maintain their trust in the police force, emphasizing that fighting crime requires collaboration between the public and security agencies.
He assured the citizens of Edo State that the command remains committed to making the state a safer place for all its residents.

Isaac Fayose Criticizes Government Over Taxation and Insecurity
Nigerian businessman Isaac Fayose has spoken about what he considers one of the country’s biggest problems, stating that many Nigerians are worried about government taxation, insecurity, and the increasing rate of kidnappings for ransom.
He lamented the situation and criticized the government, arguing that these issues have become deeply rooted and that there appears to be no lasting solution in sight.
According to him “In Nigeria we have two governments. One is collecting tax, the other one is collecting ransom. Both of them have one thing in common which is to make life difficult for their people.
The one that is collecting tax without doing anything will come and share you rice and semolina. The one that is collecting ransom is doing giveaway on social media.”
