Nigeria Police Unveil E-CMR, Ending Roadblocks for Paper Checks

The Nigeria Police Force has introduced the Electronic Central Motor Registry (E-CMR), highlighting its potential to transform the way vehicle information is tracked and verified, especially in cases of theft.
This innovation promises to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of the police force in vehicle registration and recovery.
Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the Force Public Relations Officer, shared the advantages of E-CMR on Thursday, noting that one of the key benefits is the elimination of roadblocks for paper checks.
With this new technology, police officers will be able to verify vehicle documents in real-time using advanced tools, ensuring a smoother and faster process without the need to stop drivers unnecessarily.
Adejobi further explained that once a vehicle is registered under the E-CMR system, owners have the ability to immediately report their car as stolen through an online profile.
This swift notification ensures that law enforcement can quickly track and recover the vehicle, improving the chances of its safe return.
The Inspector General of Police, Olukayode Egbetokun, had earlier in July 2024 directed the implementation of the digitalized Central Motor Registry.
This initiative is part of a broader effort to modernize the vehicle registration process and strengthen the nation’s security infrastructure.
The digitization aims to streamline the process, making it more secure, efficient, and capable of responding to the country’s evolving safety needs.
