Popular Nigerian skit maker Oluwadolarz has opened up about the challenges he faces due to misconceptions surrounding his stage name.

During a chat on the Open Up podcast, he revealed that some brands hesitate to work with him simply because of his name, assuming it has negative connotations.

Sharing the backstory, he explained that the name “Dolarz” came about in 2010 when he was still a stand-up comedian. He had cracked a joke about the fluctuating value of the dollar, and the nickname stuck.

“People forgot my real name because that joke became my identity. By 2014, I started adding ‘Oluwa is involved’ whenever people called me Dolarz. That’s how ‘Oluwadolarz’ was formed,” he said.

Unfortunately, the name has led to a lot of false assumptions. “Many think I’m a Yahoo boy or involved in shady activities. Brands don’t want to associate with me because of that misconception,” he added.
