Chukwueze Urges Super Eagles to Beat Rwanda and South Africa for World Cup Spot
Samuel Chukwueze has stressed the need for the Super Eagles to secure victories in their upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Rwanda and South Africa. Nigeria currently sits fourth in Group C with seven points from six matches, while South Africa leads the table with 13 points.
Speaking after sealing his loan move from AC Milan to Fulham, Chukwueze told Fulham TV that the team must give their all to claim maximum points in both games.
“We really need to win against Rwanda and South Africa to keep our World Cup hopes alive,” the winger said, adding that full focus is on the task ahead.
The Super Eagles will host Rwanda on Saturday at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo before traveling to Bloemfontein to face South Africa three days later. Chukwueze is expected to join camp today ahead of the crucial fixtures.

Speaking during a recent interview, Bassey shared that he once made a personal promise to himself to quit pursuing football professionally if he failed to secure a spot at a professional club.
“I remember being 15 and going into my final year, and I told myself that if I didn’t get into a professional club, I would quit football. It was that simple,” he said.
“I would just stop pursuing it seriously and only play for fun. Thank God I eventually got a club, because I honestly don’t know where I would be otherwise.”

Head of the Super Eagles, Eric Chelle, shared that the big-name players on the team are not happy about being benched.
He recalled when he took out Samuel Chukwueze during the match against Tanzania.
“Yes, of course, we’ve in this team a lot of big names. They are competitors; they aren’t happy when they go to the bench,” Chelle said at his post-match interview.”
