The news of her death was first reported by popular Instagram accounts Gossipmill and Cutie Juls, quickly becoming a trending topic online.

In the aftermath, several videos surfaced showing Dr. Anu in a hospital bed, frail and weakened by her illness.

Before her death, Dr. Anu faced significant legal troubles. In May 2004, she was sentenced to one year in prison by a federal high court in Lagos.

Her legal issues were exacerbated in 2020 when the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) began investigating her practices following the tragic death of a patient, Nneka Onwuzuligbo, due to a botched surgery.
