Do2dtun Criticizes Tyla Over VMA Speech

Published

on

Nigerian On-Air Personality (OAP) Do2dtun has criticized South African singer Tyla after her speech at the 2024 VMA Awards. Tyla, who won the Best Afrobeats Award over fellow nominees like Tems, Ayra Starr, Davido, and Burna Boy, expressed dissatisfaction with being labeled an Afrobeats artist. She stated that she is an Amapiano artist, not Afrobeats, despite the genre’s global popularity.

Reacting on his X handle, Do2dtun called out Tyla for accepting an award that didn’t align with her music. He pointed out that her song “Water” isn’t strictly Amapiano and argued that if she believed she was placed in the wrong category, she should have declined the award or nomination.
