Former England football manager, Sven-Goran Eriksson, has passed away at the age of 76. His family confirmed the sad news on Monday in a brief statement, noting that he died peacefully at home, surrounded by loved ones, after a prolonged battle with illness.

“Sven-Goran Eriksson has passed away. After a long illness, SGE died during the morning at home, surrounded by family,” the statement read.

The Swedish football icon had been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, a condition he revealed earlier this year, stating that doctors had given him “a year to live, at best.” Despite this grim prognosis, Eriksson remained close to his family during his final months.

Eriksson’s distinguished coaching career spanned decades, during which he managed some of Europe’s elite football clubs. He held managerial roles at prestigious teams such as Benfica, Roma, Fiorentina, Sampdoria, and Lazio.

He also became well-known for his time as the head coach of the England national team, where he left a significant mark on English football.
