Manchester United legend Gary Neville has shown support for Chelsea goalkeeper Robert Sánchez amid his recent struggles.

Sánchez started the season as Chelsea’s first-choice goalkeeper, edging out Djordje Petrović. However, under new head coach Enzo Maresca, his performances have come under scrutiny after several costly mistakes.

The 27-year-old was dropped following Chelsea’s 3-1 loss to Manchester City last month, with Maresca turning to Jørgensen in their recent 3-0 defeat to Brighton.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Neville admitted it would be tough for Sánchez to reclaim his spot.

“It’s still early to say if Jørgensen is the long-term solution, but it’s a big challenge for any young goalkeeper at a club like Chelsea,” he said.

“I feel for Sánchez. He was left in for too long when he was struggling. Maybe he should have been taken out earlier.

Now, it’s hard to bring him back because once a goalkeeper’s confidence is broken, rebuilding it takes time.”
