Jennie Kim of BLACKPINK Faces Vaping Backlash, Agency Apologizes
Jennie Kim of BLACKPINK faced backlash when a July 2 YouTube vlog showed her vaping indoors, violating South Korea’s smoking regulations. The video was edited after criticism emerged.
OA (Odd Atelier), Jennie’s agency, apologized on July 9 via social media, expressing regret and confirming Jennie’s personal apologies to affected staff. The incident prompted a petition to investigate, with speculation that the vlog was filmed in Capri, Italy, raising diplomatic concerns.
The incident sparked debates on K-pop idols’ strict behavioral standards, highlighted by Jennie in a Netflix documentary discussing prohibitions on activities like drinking and smoking.
Despite the controversy, Jennie continues her solo career and commitments with BLACKPINK, establishing her own company in December 2023. OA Entertainment vowed preventive measures, emphasizing responsibility in addressing the issue.
