Published

on

In a recent judgment, a Kebbi State court sentenced three men—Amiru Sani, Aliyu Umar, and Bashar Dan-Inno—to life imprisonment after being found guilty of criminal conspiracy and rape.

The prosecution, led by Faridah Muhammad, presented evidence that the defendants committed the crimes in Wararin Zaromawa village, Gwandu Local Government Area.

According to the prosecution, the defendants broke into the victim’s home while she was asleep, assaulted her with a piece of cloth, tied her hands, and raped her one by one.

The court was shown six exhibits, including statements from three witnesses, to support the charges.

Defence counsel Ahmaed Abubakar-Filgila called the convicts to testify but did not present any supporting documents.

He requested leniency, but Justice Jafar determined that the prosecution had proven all elements of the crime beyond a reasonable doubt.

The judge emphasized that the defendants conspired and committed the rape of an 18-year-old deaf woman at her husband’s residence.

Justice Jafar concluded that the evidence necessitated a life sentence for each defendant under sections 259 and 60 of the Kebbi State Penal Code Law, 2021.
