NFVCB Responds to Controversy Over Upcoming Film Featuring Niqab-Wearing Bank Robbers
The National Film and Video Censors Board (NFVCB) has addressed the backlash over a movie poster showing actresses robbing a bank while wearing niqabs.
The poster sparked outrage among Muslims, leading the Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) to demand a ban on the film, calling it “satanic.”
In response, the NFVCB clarified that the film is still in production and has not been submitted for classification. The board assured the public that the producers are working to address the concerns raised.
The NFVCB emphasized its commitment to not overlook creative works that abuse or undermine religious, cultural, and ethnic sensibilities.
The NFVCB’s statement reads: “Our check revealed that the movie has not been released, and it has not been submitted to the NFVCB for classification as required by law and our mandate.
We have been able to reach the producers of the film and have taken steps to address the concerns raised.”
The board also reaffirmed its dedication to contributing to the positive transformation of Nigerian society through film classification, balancing freedom of expression with the need to prevent social, cultural, and religious harm.

Tinubu’s Administration Secures $30 Billion in Foreign Investments
President Bola Tinubu has shared that his administration, in less than two years, has attracted a significant $30 billion in foreign direct investment (FDI) commitments to Nigeria.
Tinubu’s message was conveyed by the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, who represented him at the 2024 Comptroller General of Customs (CGC) conference held in Abuja.
Ribadu listed Tinubu’s strategy to transform Nigeria into an attractive investment hub by focusing on policies that promote economic stability and transparency.
“Since taking office, we have worked relentlessly to create an environment where investors feel confident about Nigeria’s future,” Ribadu said on behalf of Tinubu.
“The result is that we have already secured over $30 billion in investment commitments.” This, he pointed out, underscores the administration’s vision to lay a solid economic foundation despite numerous challenges.
The president’s ambitious economic reforms, including the removal of fuel subsidies and the unification of Nigeria’s exchange rate system, have been focal points of his administration.
These measures, Tinubu noted, are intended to foster an environment that is both sustainable and fair, encouraging businesses to thrive in a transparent framework.
Though the reforms have required adjustments and sacrifices from Nigerian citizens, Tinubu argued that they are vital for the country’s long-term development and resilience.
In addition, Ribadu cited Nigeria’s improved stability and the administration’s success in raising crude oil production to 1.8 million barrels per day, a feat that reflects Tinubu’s resolve to reposition Nigeria as a leader in global oil production.
This output, boosted by strengthened security in oil-producing regions and collaborative efforts with local communities, is one of the steps aimed at maximizing Nigeria’s natural resources for economic growth.

Newly Installed Transformer in Jos Community Vandalized Days After Installation
A newly installed transformer in Rikkos Yarkasu, Jos North, Plateau State, meant to improve power supply, has been vandalized just days after being set up by Jos Electricity Distribution (JED).
Community members allege that the delay in connecting power led to the looting, as vandals exploited the power outage.
Shapiu Usman, a youth leader, noted that the community had been in darkness for eight months.
JED’s Regional Manager, Engr. Kabiru Lawal, confirmed the transformer’s N24 million cost, explaining the delay resulted from unpaid community debts.
He added that transformer theft has surged recently, with 80 units reported vandalized across the region following a power disruption in the 330kV transmission line between Enugu and Benue.

Amotekun Corps Arrests Ogun Man Over Staged Kidnapping to Escape N1 Million Debt
The Ogun State Amotekun Corps has arrested Enitan Awoyemi, a 41-year-old resident of Irolu-Remo, for allegedly staging his own kidnapping to avoid repaying a N1 million gambling debt.
According to Brigadier General Alade Adedigba (retd.), Awoyemi’s wife reported receiving a call from her husband, claiming he had been abducted and that his captors demanded a N5 million ransom.
Investigations revealed Awoyemi’s debt stemmed from gambling losses after a previous N6 million lottery win, which he spent on a Toyota Corolla and a motorcycle. Unable to repay his debts, he allegedly faked his kidnapping.
Awoyemi was tracked and arrested by Amotekun officers, along with the Vigilantes Group of Nigeria, at Irolu Okada Park. Officers noticed a strong insecticide odor on him, suggesting a possible suicide attempt. He was taken to Rufina Private Hospital for treatment and will be handed over to the police once discharged.
The Amotekun Commander praised community support in the arrest and urged vigilance, stressing the importance of public cooperation in ensuring safety and security in Ogun State.
