The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) spokesperson, Babawale Afolabi, has confirmed the recovery of four officers’ bodies following an ambush by Boko Haram insurgents. The attack occurred near the boundaries of Niger and Kaduna states during an inspection of the National Grid Installation.

Of the seven personnel initially reported missing, Afolabi revealed that two officers returned unhurt to base, four were found dead, and one remains missing.

The ambush, which targeted a convoy escorting expatriates stranded in Dagwachi Village after visiting a mining site, involved over 200 heavily armed insurgents. Despite being outnumbered, NSCDC officers reportedly killed over 50 insurgents in a fierce exchange.

The NSCDC Commandant General, Dr. Ahmed Audi, condemned the attack, describing it as a tragic loss. He expressed condolences to the families of the deceased and praised the bravery of the officers.

Dr. Audi urged Corps members to stay vigilant and called for public support to help security agencies tackle insecurity and safeguard lives and property.

South Korea’s presidential security chief, Park Chong-jun, made a clear statement on Friday urging that there should be no violence or bloodshed if authorities try to execute another arrest warrant for impeached President Yoon Suk Yeol, following his failed attempt to impose martial law.

He refused to cooperate with investigators, and last week, a tense standoff occurred between his security forces and law enforcement officers attempting to arrest him.

Yoon’s actions during the attempted martial law declaration have led to insurrection charges.

“I understand the concerns of the public, seeing the government in such conflict and confrontation,” Park said.

“However, there must be no physical clashes or bloodshed in this situation.”

Investigators obtained a new arrest warrant for Yoon after the previous seven-day order expired on Monday, aiming to question him over charges related to insurrection.

However, despite this, Yoon’s supporters have rallied around him, even braving freezing temperatures outside the presidential residence to protect him.

The Nigerian government has announced plans to shorten the minimum wage review cycle from five years to two, signaling a more frequent adjustment to align with economic realities.

This decision was revealed by the Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Nkeiruka Onyejeocha, during an address in Abia State.

Onyejeocha explained that the revised timeline is part of President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to improving the welfare of Nigerian workers.

She emphasized that the government is determined to ensure that wage reviews happen regularly and in a timely manner.

“We are no longer sticking to the old five-year schedule for minimum wage reviews,” Onyejeocha said.
