Greek football powerhouse Panathinaikos has reportedly joined the race to sign Nigerian striker Kelechi Iheanacho from Sevilla.

Iheanacho, known for his time at Manchester City and Leicester City, has struggled to make an impact since joining Sevilla.

However, he has shown glimpses of his talent in the Copa del Rey, scoring three goals in the competition.

Reports from Spanish outlet Deportivo Mundo suggest that Panathinaikos has opened talks with Sevilla regarding a potential move for the forward. The Greek side is looking to strengthen their attack and believes Iheanacho could provide the spark they need.

Panathinaikos isn’t the only club eyeing the Nigerian international. English clubs Watford, Ipswich Town, and Wolverhampton Wanderers have also expressed interest in the striker. These teams see him as a valuable addition due to his Premier League experience and ability to perform on big occasions.

Juventus Scouting Director Giorgio Chiellini has made it clear that the club has no involvement in the ongoing rumours linking Victor Osimhen to Turin. The Nigerian striker has been at the centre of transfer speculation this summer, with reports suggesting Juventus and other European clubs are interested in securing his services.

Osimhen recently completed a season-long loan spell with Galatasaray from Napoli, and the 26-year-old is expected to make a decision about his future soon. However, Chiellini dismissed the Juventus rumours, saying, “We have nothing to do with Osimhen. People need to fill pages and create stories. We read all sorts of things that make us laugh. You talk, we work.”

Juventus already boast Dušan Vlahović and Randal Kolo Muani in attack and are close to adding former Lille striker Jonathan David to their squad this summer.

Real Madrid have booked their spot in the quarter-finals of the 2025 Club World Cup after a hard-fought 1-0 win over Juventus. The Spanish giants were tipped as favourites heading into the Round of 16 clash but struggled to break down the Italian side in the first half. It was Gonzalo Garcia who made the difference, nodding home a well-placed cross from Trent Alexander-Arnold in the 54th minute to seal the win.

Despite Real’s dominance, Juve’s goalkeeper Michele di Gregorio put in a brilliant performance to keep the scoreline close. Xabi Alonso’s men now advance to the last eight, where they’ll meet either Borussia Dortmund or Monterrey for a place in the semi-finals.

Super Eagles defender Bright Osayi-Samuel has expressed confidence that Nigeria still has a strong shot at qualifying for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, despite the slow start to their qualifying campaign.

Speaking to journalists during the final of the second edition of the Bright Osayi Football Tournament for under-13 players, held at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin City, the Fenerbahçe star shared his belief in the team’s ability to bounce back.

According to him, the players are determined to fight for qualification and are fully behind head coach Eric Chelle’s vision. “I believe we can still make it. The goal is to go out and win every match,” Osayi-Samuel said. “It won’t be easy, but we believe in ourselves and the team.”

He added that with the right mindset and unity, the Super Eagles can turn their situation around. The Nigerian international also praised Chelle, describing him as a brilliant coach whose style the team has embraced. “For me, the coach is doing a great job. His approach, the way he wants us to press and run, the entire team is on board with it,” he explained.

Osayi-Samuel pointed to their recent solid performance against a tough Russian side, mentioning that progress is being made. “In our last match against Russia, we held our ground against a team that had gone unbeaten in six or seven games. If we keep pushing together, I believe we have a real chance,” he concluded.
