Veteran Nollywood actor Patrick Doyle has openly criticized the popular phrase “I am a Chosen,” which is frequently used by members of The Lord’s Chosen Charismatic Revival Ministries.

His comments come in the wake of growing social media debates and controversies surrounding viral testimonies from the church.

In a post shared on his Facebook page, Doyle expressed his strong disapproval of the phrase, describing it as nonsensical and arguing that it is not rooted in Christian doctrine.

He emphasized that the phrase “I am a Chosen” should not be associated with the Christian faith, stating that its use by the church members does not align with the teachings of Jesus Christ.

Doyle further elaborated that, in his view, when members of the religious group chant the phrase, they are not thinking of Christ.

Instead, their focus appears to be directed toward their General Overseer (GO), which he believes raises serious concerns.

He argued that there is no reference to Jesus in the phrase, making it inconsistent with the core principles of Christianity.

According to Doyle, suggesting that this phrase is linked to glorifying Jesus is a misinterpretation of faith and a distortion of Christian beliefs.

He went on to explain that content creators and bloggers who have used the phrase in viral videos are not mocking the broader Christian church, but rather the religious sect and its leadership.

He expressed concern that the sect’s practices may mislead people about the true essence of Christianity.

This critique follows a recent call by fellow actor IK Ogbonna, who urged the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) to take action against what he termed “fake miracles” being promoted by some churches.

Ogbonna’s remarks echoed wider concerns about the rise of questionable practices in certain religious organizations.

Actress Kemi Lala Akindoju has also weighed in on the issue, sharing her criticism of the doctrines upheld by The Lord’s Chosen Charismatic Revival Ministries.

She questioned the validity of some of the church’s teachings, adding to the growing discourse among Nigerian celebrities.

In response to the controversy surrounding the phrase, the Christian Association of Nigeria publicly condemned a specific testimony that had gone viral.

The testimony, given by a member of The Lord’s Chosen church, claimed that an “angel” had provided answers during an exam, which sparked outrage and scepticism across social media platforms.

CAN’s statement stressed the importance of upholding true Christian values and warned against promoting misleading or fabricated stories in the name of religion.

As debates continue to unfold, the phrase “I am a Chosen” remains a focal point in discussions about the boundaries between faith, doctrine, and individual church practices in Nigeria.

Doyle’s remarks have sparked further conversation, with many questioning the authenticity of certain religious expressions and their place within the larger Christian community.
