In the ongoing petition tribunal concerning the February 3, 2024 bye-election in Ebonyi South, the senatorial candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Barrister Silas Onu, has formally concluded presenting his case against Professor Anthony Ani of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), whom he challenged following his declaration by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Onu, a prominent figure within the PDP ranks, initiated legal proceedings with the aim of reclaiming what he asserts is his mandate, purportedly bestowed upon him by the electorate of Ebonyi South senatorial zone.

Emphasizing the rigor of their legal strategy, Onu highlighted the introduction of crucial evidence such as the Biometric Voter Authentication System (BVAS), presented openly in court and meticulously aligned with his sworn affidavit.

Reflecting on the procedural developments, Onu noted that INEC had also closed their case without calling witnesses, paving the way for the next phase.

He outlined the upcoming schedule, indicating that the 2nd and 3rd Respondents are expected to commence presenting their cases on Monday, July 15, with the possibility of concluding the same day.

Expressing optimism about the outcome, Onu conveyed confidence in the robustness of their legal arguments and the compelling nature of the evidence supporting their claims.

He underscored their reliance on divine providence for success, expressing faith that their efforts would bring renewed hope to the people of Ebonyi South during what he described as a challenging period.
