Police Arrest Maid Impersonator for Alleged $60,000 Jewelry Theft in Lagos
A 33-year-old woman, identified as Alice Udey, has been arrested by Lagos police for allegedly stealing jewelry worth over $60,000 from her employer, less than 24 hours after being hired as a housemaid. Udey, who reportedly used multiple aliases, was apprehended on Sunday, October 27, at the Ikoyi Police Station after a 16-month search.
Authorities believe Udey may be part of an organized crime ring targeting affluent Nigerian households. She was initially recruited by her employer through an agency, and CCTV footage reportedly captured her taking the jewelry before she disappeared the following day.
