Rivers State Appeals Federal Court Ruling on Local Government Allocations Halt
The Rivers State government has responded to the Federal High Court’s ruling in Abuja, which ordered the suspension of local government allocations.
Commissioner for Information, Joe Johnson, indicated on October 30 that the state anticipated the ruling due to developments during the trial, including the refusal to allow the 23 Council Chairmen to join the case, the denial to change the state’s legal representation, and the dismissal of jurisdiction objections.
Johnson confirmed that the state has filed an appeal, expressing optimism that the Court of Appeal would overturn the decision.
The Federal High Court’s order directs the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to halt payments to Rivers’ local governments, amid ongoing tensions between former Governor Nyesom Wike and current Governor Siminialayi Fubara.
