South Korean Soloist IU Celebrates as She Hits 10 Million YouTube Subscribers

South Korean singer-songwriter and actress IU, whose real name is Lee Ji-eun, has achieved a remarkable milestone by surpassing 10 million subscribers on her official YouTube channel, ‘이지금 [IU Official]’.
Notably, this accomplishment, reached on April 6, 2025, grants her the prestigious Diamond Play Button from YouTube, an award given to channels that reach the 10 million subscriber mark.
Earlier, IU launched her YouTube channel in February 2017, and over the past eight years, it has become a hub for diverse content. The channel features behind-the-scenes footage, music videos, live performances, and her original variety program, IU’s Palette.
Additionally, this variety has allowed fans to gain an intimate glimpse into her artistic journey and personal experiences. The channel reached one million subscribers by May 2019 and surpassed five million by January 2021.
Also, to commemorate this achievement, IU posted a short video on her channel capturing the moment her subscriber count crossed the 10 million threshold. In the video, she is seen holding a tablet displaying the real-time subscriber count.
As the numbers approached 10 million, IU’s excitement was palpable. Accompanied by her manager, they celebrated the milestone with car honks and clapping. In addition, IU expressed her gratitude to her subscribers and promised to bring more engaging content in the future.
She playfully updated the subscriber count in real-time, saying, “Thank you for 10 million and 13 subscribers,” followed by, “Thank you for 10 million and 15 subscribers,” leading her manager to humorously comment that the video might never end if she continued updating the count.

Portable Arrested in Abeokuta Over Defamation and Threat Allegations

The Kwara State Police Command has arrested popular singer Habeb Okikiola Badmus, widely known as Portable, over allegations of criminal defamation and other related offences.
According to the police, the arrest followed a petition filed by Okunola Saheed, also known as Osupa, who accused the singer of threatening his life, character assassination, incitement, and using offensive language.
In a statement released by the command’s spokesperson, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, it was confirmed that a valid arrest warrant was obtained from a Magistrate Court in Ilorin. Acting on that warrant, officers tracked Portable down in Abeokuta, Ogun State, on Saturday, April 13, 2025, around 7:25 pm.
He was taken into custody and transported to Ilorin for further questioning. The police said his statement was recorded in the presence of legal representatives from both sides.
Portable is still in custody, and authorities say preparations are underway to charge him in court soon.
The police have called on the public to stay calm and avoid spreading false or unverified claims, adding that they remain committed to due process and ensuring justice is served fairly.

Eedris Says His New Song is Not an Attack But a Message to Seyi Tinubu

Nigerian rapper Eedris Abdulkareem has cleared the air on his new song Tell Your Papa, saying it wasn’t a personal attack on Seyi Tinubu.
Speaking on Channels TV’s Rubbin’ Minds, the veteran artist said the track was simply a response to Seyi’s public claim that his father, President Bola Tinubu, is Nigeria’s best-ever leader. That statement was made in March 2025 during a visit to Yola, Adamawa State.
Eedris explained that the song was meant to urge the president’s son to call on his father to fix the country’s issues, not to spark any personal drama.
“Nigerian youths are asking for the basics—electricity, security, jobs, and a working economy. Not handouts,” he said.
Meanwhile, he made it clear that if Seyi hadn’t made the remark, there wouldn’t have been a song at all. “I was inspired by his video. If he kept quiet, I would have too,” he added.
Shortly after the song dropped, the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) banned it from airwaves, calling it inappropriate—a move that has sparked backlash from many Nigerians.
Even Nobel Laureate Wole Soyinka weighed in, slamming the ban as censorship and a threat to free speech.
Also, Eedris noted that over two decades after releasing Nigeria Jaga Jaga, the message sadly still rings true, as the country continues to battle the same problems it did years ago.
