Controversial Nigerian artist Darlington Okoye, widely known as Speed Darlington, has regained his freedom after being held in custody.

The news was shared by activist lawyer Deji Adeyanju, who confirmed the singer’s release from Kuje Prison.

Adeyanju posted on X, formerly Twitter, announcing, “Speed Darlington is out of Kuje Prison”.

Speed Darlington’s release came after an Abuja court granted him bail. This followed mounting public pressure that pushed the Nigeria Police Force to finally arraign him in court.

Before his release, Darlington had petitioned the Deputy Inspector-General of Police, Dasuki Galadanchi, of the Force Intelligence Bureau in Abuja, over what he described as an unlawful and prolonged detention.
