Popular Nigerian filmmaker Stanley Ajemba, better known as Stanley Ontop, has stirred controversy with claims that gospel singer Mercy Chinwo was behind the recent arrest of social media critic, VeryDarkMan.

In a post shared on Instagram on Sunday, Stanley reacted to trending news that pointed fingers at GTBank over the incident. However, he dismissed the bank’s involvement and alleged that Mercy Chinwo was the one who called for the arrest. He went further to criticize churches in Nigeria, claiming they act like powerful institutions that use law enforcement agencies such as the police, EFCC, and even the military to silence ordinary citizens.

“GTBank isn’t the reason VDM was picked up at their branch. It was Mercy Chinwo. She’s the one who got him arrested,” Stanley stated.

He added, “Churches these days operate like another arm of government, using the police and other agencies to intimidate people.” VeryDarkMan was reportedly taken into custody by the EFCC on Friday, May 2, shortly after visiting GTBank with his mother to complain about suspicious deductions from her account.
