Derrick Rose Announces Retirement After 16-Year NBA Career
Former NBA MVP Derrick Rose has announced his retirement from basketball, concluding a remarkable 16-year career. He began his journey in the league by winning the Rookie of the Year award in 2009 and made history in 2011 as the youngest player to win the MVP title at just 22 years old.
However, his career faced significant challenges after a severe knee injury during the 2012 playoffs, which sidelined him for nearly two full seasons. In a heartfelt message on social media, Rose expressed gratitude for basketball, calling it his “first love” and reflecting on the joy and solace it brought him.
He played for several teams during his career, including the Chicago Bulls, New York Knicks, and Memphis Grizzlies, averaging 17.4 points and 5.2 assists over 723 regular-season games. Despite the ups and downs, including a resurgence as a candidate for the Sixth Man of the Year in multiple seasons, Rose remains grateful for the time he spent on the court.
