President Bola Tinubu is set to travel to Cape Town, South Africa, after concluding his visit to France.

This trip marks a significant diplomatic engagement as he prepares to co-chair the 11th session of the Nigeria-South Africa Bi-National Commission (BNC) with South African President Cyril Ramaphosa.

Tinubu is currently in France on the invitation of President Emmanuel Macron.

His discussions there have focused on strengthening Nigeria’s relationship with France and fostering partnerships in economic, security, and other key sectors.

According to a statement from his spokesman, Bayo Onanuga, the Bi-National Commission meeting will officially begin on Tuesday, December 3, 2024.

However, preparations will kick off with a ministerial meeting on December 2 at South Africa’s Parliament Building in Cape Town.

During the BNC, Presidents Tinubu and Ramaphosa will hold extensive talks covering a range of issues critical to both nations.

These discussions will address bilateral matters such as trade, investment, security, and migration, as well as regional and international concerns.

The meeting also offers an opportunity to review commitments made during their earlier discussions on June 20, 2024, when Tinubu visited Johannesburg shortly after Ramaphosa’s inauguration for a second term.

The Bi-National Commission, a platform established to deepen cooperation between the two countries, will focus on eight strategic areas.

These include political consultations, consular and migration issues, banking and finance, defense and security, manufacturing, the social sector, mining and energy, and trade and investment.

President Ramaphosa, a seasoned politician and anti-apartheid activist, has been instrumental in driving South Africa’s foreign policy towards fostering stronger ties across Africa.

Under his leadership, the country has prioritized economic recovery, industrialization, and regional security.

Similarly, President Tinubu has demonstrated a commitment to positioning Nigeria as a leader in Africa by leveraging partnerships to tackle pressing challenges such as insecurity and economic instability.

The ministerial meetings preceding the presidential session will lay the groundwork for these high-level discussions.

They will involve senior officials from various sectors, ensuring that the BNC outcomes are practical and impactful.

The city of Awka was filled with emotion on the evening of Tuesday, August 5, 2025, as people from all walks of life came out to honour the life of Ifesinachi Onyekere, popularly known as Fish Magnet, a young entrepreneur whose sudden death shook the community.

The candlelight procession, led by controversial social commentator VeryDarkMan (VDM), was both a tribute and a public outcry against the growing insecurity in the region.

Fish Magnet also known as Ifesinachi was a hardworking fish farmer who turned his hustle into a brand that many respected. He provided jobs, offered support to small vendors, and inspired other young people in Anambra. He was kidnapped from his home in Okpuno and later found dead.

VDM, who led the procession, used the opportunity to speak out about the rise in kidnappings and killings in Anambra. He called on both state and federal authorities to stop ignoring the cries of the people and take action before more lives are lost.

Before the event, police authorities warned VDM not to disrupt public peace and reminded him that the family of the deceased had not called for any public procession. However, the walk remained calm, with officers quietly monitoring to prevent any issues. Despite early fears of tension, the crowd remained peaceful and focused on honouring Ifesinachi’s memory.

Kwam 1 Stops Plane from Taking Off at Abuja Airport After Argument with ValueJet

An incident involving legendary Fuji musician Kwam 1 (King Wasiu Ayinde Marshal) and ValueJet Airlines has grabbed the nation’s attention after a chaotic scene unfolded at the Abuja airport on Tuesday, August 5, 2025.

Kwam 1 was set to board ValueJet’s VK 201 flight from Abuja to Lagos, but things took a different turn when airport officials questioned the content of a flask he carried with him. According to reports, crew members suspected the container had alcohol, which isn’t allowed on board. They asked him to hand it over, but he allegedly refused. He insisted it was either water or something for medical use. The refusal to surrender the flask caused a standoff between him and the airline staff.

Things got more intense when Kwam 1 reportedly stepped out onto the airport tarmac and stood close to the aircraft’s path, apparently trying to stop the flight from taking off. Videos taken at the scene show the aircraft taxiing with Kwam 1 still in front of it.

The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) and the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) have both weighed in. Two ValueJet pilots have now been suspended for starting the aircraft’s taxiing without final clearance from the control tower, which goes against air safety regulations. In addition to this, Aviation Minister Festus Keyamo has ordered that Kwam 1 be placed on a no-fly list, warning that any airline that flies him could face penalties, including losing their license.

The airline is also said to be considering legal action against him, while reports suggest he may be blacklisted from flying within the country until the matter is resolved.

Kwam 1, however, has spoken out. He insists he did nothing wrong and that ValueJet has already apologized to him. He said the airline even offered to fly him privately to Lagos after the drama, which he turned down. According to him, the flask only contained water and not alcohol, and he believes the entire situation was blown out of proportion.

Meanwhile, actor and media personality Patrick Doyle has spoken in defense of Kwam 1. He shared that public figures often get targeted in situations like this and suggested that airline staff may have tried to provoke the musician. Doyle recalled similar treatment during his own travels, pointing out how these situations can quickly get out of hand.

Reports suggest that former President Goodluck Jonathan may be preparing to enter the 2027 presidential race. There’s been growing speculation about a potential comeback, especially with signs that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is working behind the scenes to bring him back into the spotlight.

A close associate of the former president revealed that Jonathan has allegedly agreed to run, and talks have progressed significantly within the party. The source claimed that Jonathan is motivated by a desire to tackle the worsening poverty, economic hardship, and general suffering that has plagued Nigerians since the APC came into power in 2015.

It’s also reported that Jonathan has quietly consulted with key political figures, including leaders from the north and other influential players within and outside the PDP. One of those meetings reportedly took place last weekend in Minna, where he visited former military president General Ibrahim Babangida to discuss his interest in running for just one term.

Meanwhile, the PDP’s Deputy National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Ibrahim Abdullahi, noted that efforts are indeed being made to bring Jonathan back. He added that many Nigerians now regret voting him out and are calling on him to return and help steer the country out of its current struggles.
