Young Girl Loses Eye After Vape Explosion in Dublin

A seven-year-old schoolgirl from Tallaght, Dublin, tragically lost her eye after a vape exploded near her face, covering her skin with battery acid.

Ruby Grainger had just purchased ice cream from a nearby van when the incident occurred. As she walked past a bonfire lit by local youths, a battery in the flames burst, sending shards into her face.

Her mother, Ciara, described the horrifying moment, saying, “All I heard was screaming. When she reached the house, I nearly collapsed.” Ruby was rushed to the Royal Victoria Eye and Ear Hospital, where doctors had to remove her eye during an emergency operation.

Medical professionals believe the severe damage was caused by battery acid from the vape. Ruby now faces life-altering challenges, including adjusting to her vision loss and learning to balance again.

A fundraiser has been launched to help cover the cost of a prosthetic eye, with hopes that she will be ready for surgery in six weeks.

Ruby will also need to attend a specialized school for visually impaired children to accommodate her new condition.

Fire Incident Reported at Murtala Muhammed Airport

It has been reported that fire occurred at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos (MMIA), Terminal 1. This fire incident occurred on Monday, 23rd of February, 2026.

Passengers at that terminal were spotted running away for safety after seeing the fire and the alarm.

The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) released a statement and shared that no life was lost and people were saved and avoided danger.
