A 19-year-old YouTuber known as Norme has achieved a new Guinness World Record by staying awake for an astonishing 12 days, surpassing the previous record of 11 days set by Randy Gardner in 1964.

Norme’s extraordinary feat was broadcast live, drawing significant attention and concern from both viewers and authorities.

Throughout his 12-day vigil, Norme’s health and well-being were the subject of widespread anxiety. His fans frequently contacted emergency services due to worries about his physical condition.

Additionally, social media platforms imposed multiple bans on Norme’s content amid growing concerns over the potential dangers of his extreme attempt.

Norme’s record-breaking live stream, which reached 9,000 viewers on the alternative platform Rumble, showcased his endurance as he broke the record with a total of 264 hours and 24 minutes of wakefulness.

The final stages of his attempt saw ambulances and police vehicles stationed outside his residence, highlighting the seriousness of the situation as he continued his marathon challenge with friends in attendance.

The previous record holder, Randy Gardner, achieved 11 days without sleep at the age of 17 in 1964. Gardner’s attempt was closely monitored by scientists, who documented his experiences of hallucinations and severe disorientation.

Since Gardner’s record, there have been two other individuals who have stayed awake for over 400 hours, but their attempts were not officially recognized by Guinness World Records.

Unlike previous record attempts, which involved medical professionals overseeing the participants’ health, Norme undertook his challenge without such supervision, raising significant concerns about his safety throughout the event.
