In a recent interview on Arise TV, Ali Ndume, the Chief Whip of the Senate, compared the accessibility of former President Muhammadu Buhari with that of Bola Tinubu, noting significant differences.

Ndume pointed out that during the tenure of President Olusegun Obasanjo from 1999 to 2007, senators and ministers had relatively easy access to him within a short span of 24 hours.

This, according to Ndume, was crucial for fostering direct communication and understanding between leaders and stakeholders in governance.

Highlighting the current landscape, Ndume expressed concerns about the perceived difficulty in securing appointments with Bola Tinubu, attributing this challenge to what he described as being “shielded from reality” by his aides.

He underscored the importance of accessibility in politics, suggesting that effective governance requires open channels of communication between leaders and their constituencies.

Ndume further elaborated on the changing dynamics of presidential accessibility, contrasting his experiences with Buhari, whom he characterized as more reachable during his presidency, with the current situation involving Tinubu.

He emphasized the role of direct engagement in policy-making and decision-making processes, arguing that barriers to access could potentially hinder effective governance and responsiveness to national issues.

The senator also raised concerns about the impact of overly protective aides around Tinubu, suggesting that such practices might inadvertently isolate leaders from the broader perspectives and concerns of the populace.

In concluding his remarks, Ndume called for a reevaluation of the protocols surrounding presidential accessibility, advocating for a more open and inclusive approach to leadership in Nigeria’s political landscape.

Man Sentenced to 12 Years in Prison for Killing Wife During Argument

An Ikeja High Court has sentenced Akinwale Akinlabi to 12 years imprisonment for the manslaughter of his wife, Tope, following a domestic dispute.

The tragic incident occurred on February 2, 2020, at Ijaiye Ojojoro, Lagos, during an argument about the volume of a radio. Akinlabi pushed Tope, causing her to hit her head on the edge of a table. She succumbed to her injuries while being taken to the hospital.

Charged with manslaughter by the Lagos State Government, Akinlabi pleaded not guilty. However, Justice Oyindamola Ogala ruled on November 25, 2024, that the prosecution provided sufficient evidence beyond a reasonable doubt.

“The prosecution established the elements of manslaughter, showing that the accused’s unlawful actions led to the victim’s death,” the judge stated. While noting that the death was unintentional, the judge highlighted evidence, such as scars on the victim’s back, which corroborated witness testimonies.

Taking into account the circumstances of the case and the plea from the defense counsel, Justice Ogala sentenced Akinlabi to 12 years imprisonment, effective from February 3, 2020, the date of his initial incarceration.

Tinubu: Nigerians Must Feel Economic Impact Before I Rest

President Bola Tinubu has promised not to rest until Nigerians experience the positive effects of his economic policies.

This assurance comes after the National Bureau of Statistics reported a 3.46% growth in Nigeria’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) for the third quarter of 2024, an improvement from the 3.19% recorded in the second quarter.

In a statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Public Communications, Sunday Dare, Tinubu expressed optimism about the economic progress. He said, “I am excited by the latest report from the National Bureau of Statistics showing our economy grew more than projected.

While this is encouraging, it highlights the work ahead. We won’t rest until Nigerians feel the benefits in their daily lives and enjoy a better standard of living.”

Tinubu credited the growth to his administration’s economic reforms and better fiscal management. He emphasized that the upcoming rebasing of the economy in early 2025 will reflect significant changes in various sectors, paving the way for shared prosperity.
